New Staff. The Georgia Debate Union is pleased to welcome Casey Harrigan as the Debate Coach at the University of Georgia. Casey completed his B.A. in International Relations from Michigan State University in 2006. While at Michigan State, Casey earned two first round bids to the National Debate Tournament (NDT) and won the 2006 NDT. Casey recently completed his M.A. in Communications Studies at Wake Forest University, where he coached the 2008 NDT champions. In addition to his coaching duties, Casey will be a member of the faculty in the Department of Speech Communication.
The 2008-2009 Resolution. Resolved: that the United States Federal Government should substantially reduce its agricultural support, at least eliminating nearly all of the domestic subsidies, for biofuels, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, corn, cotton, dairy, fisheries, rice, soybeans, sugar and/or wheat.

In 2006-2007 Intercollegiate Debate Season the University of Georgia debate team won the prestigious Copeland Award, given to the best team in the U.S. during the course of the season. Read more about the team's unprecedented success.

The program is supported in part by targeted financial contributions from University alumni. Currently, Georgia debaters receive scholarship support from the Brent Clark and Augustus Turnbull accounts ( view scholarships ). Given the evolving pattern of state government economic support for the University, we will become increasingly dependent on support from those who debated for the program in earlier times.
